4 x 4: The Human City Event Series

Wednesday 5 March 2014 - 18:00 to 20:00
G36 Lecture Theatre, MMU Business School, All Saints Campus, M15 6BH

4x4 Manchester happens every Wednesday in March. At each event there will be 4 talks looking at various aspects of urban life, each lasting 15 minutes, with time for a lively audience debate afterwards.

The series is being hosted by Manchester-based artist Mike Mayhew.

The talks are not just an opportunity for an architect to promote their new building or an author to talk about their latest book but to stimulate debate and discourse and to allow people to think differently about their discipline (be that architecture, art, planning, urbanism, music etc etc).

The overall theme for the event is A Human City, with the thought being that the human experience of the city is an overarching, never-ending, ordinary, every-day, every-person thing that has become overshadowed in recent times by the smart city, the sustainable city, the technological city, the connected city, the living city etc etc. To counter this, the thought that we will always be humans experiencing the city and responding to the changing conditions of the city seems poetic.

With the overall theme of Human City, there are then 4 sub-themes for each Wednesday:

The first event (5 March 2014) is SENSEfeaturing Victoria Henshaw (Smells of the City) andAndy Spracklen (Urban Tastes) amongst others.

The events are FREE, no need to book, just turn up! Please tell your friends and colleagues.
