Urban Design Summer School
Many of the worlds most admired and lauded urban design initiatives have water at their heart. Watersides are among the most intriguing urban places, sometimes defining entire towns and cities. The added value that comes from the inventive, sensitive and novel use of water and watersides has long been recognised. This Urban Design Summer School will examine the best of those schemes with UK based and international urban designers and place makers.
The designated Waterside Enterprise Zone in Northampton, the river Nene, and the proposed relocation of the University of Northampton to a new campus at the waterside are providing the backdrop for this Summer School.
This Summer School is about breaking down the barriers between built environment professions. How timely this approach is has recently been signalled by the Farrell Review of Architecture and the Built Environment. This Summer School provides an ideal framework for learning from different specialists and contributing your own ideas.
Whether you are a student or a practioner in architecture, planning, landscape architecture, conservation or engineering, or just someone interested in understanding urban design from a practical perspective, you will find this Summer School stimulating, informative and enriching.
The Programme includes:
- Design master classes and studio work led by leading urban design practioners
- Exploration of water-based urban design best practice through a one day conference of UK based and international speakers on the theme of Claiming the Waterside. Speakers come from the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam, Moses Cameron Williams Architects, ARUP, Northampton Borough Council, David Lock Associates, the Canal & River Trust and theAcademy of Urbanism.
- Opportunities to network, collaborate, present work and ideas
