Regeneration: People and Places

Tuesday 10 July 2012 - 18:00
The Gallery, 70 Cowcross Street, London EC1M 6EJ

Janice McBride and Sarah Bissett Scott are presenting an exhibition of paintings, prints and photographs, opening on 10th July (6-8pm) and with viewings by appointment 11th to 21st July.

Black and white images from celluloid negatives, digital pictures today, and colourful prints and oil paintings combine to bring art and regeneration together in the past and present, for a critical examination of development and design in London and Melbourne.

The foundation for this exhibition is an eclectic series of images photographed by Sarah Bissett Scott in 1976 for her post-graduate research at the Architectural Association. Sarah revisits Notting Hill in photographs and digital prints to share her understanding of what regenerating North Kensington, now more fashionably known as Notting Hill, has meant for its communities.

Janice McBride's award-winning paintings prints and drawings throw a sharp retro focus on modern regeneration in Melbourne, and compare with subtle shaded views of old-style living. Those who know Melbourne will enjoy a snapshot of its lively contemporary lifestyle, and others will be tempted to find out more about how Australias unique combination of vigour and intellectual sensitivity is addressing sustainability in the built environment.
