Understanding the 20-Minute Neighbourhood:
Creating opportunities for people to live well locally
Venue: In Person event, The V&A Dundee, 1 Riverside Esplanade, Dundee DD1 4EZ
University of Dundee/ DJCAD in Collaboration with Urban Design Group
An ambition now written into policy
There has been a growing ambition to see 20-minute neighbourhood thinking and policy applied to urban, suburban and rural contexts, to aid people to ‘live well locally’. In Scotland, for example, the government ‘s NPF4 has included 20-minute neighbourhoods alongside its ambition for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045.
Ingredients
What are the essential ingredients of a 20-minute neighbourhood? What are its outcomes and impacts and means available for achieving these? In particular, given these are not uncontested policies, what changes and behaviour may be required to support their successful implementation, and how might endorsement be secured from key stakeholders?
This timely event offers an inspiring and thought-provoking opportunity to explore current perspectives, drawing from research undertaken by the University of Dundee and capturing the issues and policy lessons from Scotland and beyond. The event will be of interest to all those concerned with 20-minute neighbourhoods including planning policy-makers, urbanists, architects, planners, developers, local community organisations, and academics.
We hope that this event will assist local authorities, the development industry, design and planning practices, and local businesses and communities to make informed decisions about what may need to be done in their area – and the roles they can play if they are to make a success of ‘living well locally’.
