Better Streets Summit: The High Street Ecosystem
Free
Second in the Better Streets Summit series, organised by the Urban Design Group in conjunction with London Living Streets and Footways London, this event focuses on high streets, understanding what makes them work, the complex components of which they are made, and how to make them work better.
The decline of the high street has been anticipated for decades, yet most have adapted and survived. For many people, they were seen as a relic of a pre-car age, unable to compete with indoor, out-of-town centres; but, with a growing focus on sustainability and decarbonisation, they offer a blueprint for the future – the original ‘15-minute neighbourhood’.
This event will explore what a future high street might look like, at the core of a flourishing social and economic ecosystem, what barriers might be inhibiting change and what can be done to overcome them.”
