Urban Sketching MCR Gorden Cullen Centenary
STREET NW would like you to join us to mark the life and influence of Gordon Cullen, architect, illustrator and visual urbanist in his centenary year (b. August 1914).
To celebrate this, Simone Ridyard from Manchester Urban Sketchers will lead an evening of sketching and drawing, followed by a pin-up and discussion.
We would also like to invite you to Kro Bar on Piccadilly Gardens after the event for socialising. For further information on Simones work please visit http://www.urbansketchers.org/
This is the first event of a two part series - the second event to be revealed shortly.
Context: Writing in the Architectural Review, Gordon Cullen encapsulated the concept of visual coherence and organisation of our urban environment, under the theme of townscape. He wrote a seminal book with the title Townscape published in 1961. Some have argued that many of his ideas and observations were not sufficiently robust, others have seen him in better light, as a significant contributor to visual urbanism, architectural history, and urban design as well as an accomplished illustrator.
This event is aimed at young urban designers and anyone who would like to learn and explore urban sketching.
Bring a sketch pad and drawing materials and dress for the weather.
Sketching is for everyone - no matter what your abilities are. Please join us even if youve never sketched before!
Places are limited so please RSVP promptly to this email to reserve your place:
