Housing Minister Grant Shapps has revived interest in Garden Cities as a model for new development in the twenty firstcentury;

The new National Planning Policy Framework states that Larger scale development can sometimes be best the best option for the supply of new homes: "including new settlements or extensions to existing villages and towns that follow the principles of Garden Cities." (Paragraph 52)
