Michael Biddulph

I have been in the Urban Design Group since the early '90s. I have lectured in urban design and planning at the univerities of both Liverpool and Cardiff. This involved setting up and initially directing the MA Urban Design at Cardiff. I also ran the first UK and Ireland Planning Research Conference. I have published extensively on neighbourhood planning and design, design quality in urban renewal and was instrumental in helping get shared space residential streets legal in the UK and researching how they were then used. I now work for Cardiff Council supporting the design quality of new council housing schemes, authoring design policy and guidance, offering advice on master planning and RM schemes for 8 strategic neighbourhood developments, supporting the Council on city centre and Bay developments, and providing advice on the design aspects of planning applications. I was a trustee of Play Wales. I am also currently a Commissioner at the Design Commission for Wales. I have judged the RTPI annual research awards and am currently a Partnership Panel member for the RTPI with Queen's University Belfast and Oxford Brookes University.
