Mariana Castanos
I am an Architect and Urban Designer passionate about creating sustainable and healthy environments. My work prioritises placemaking focusing on community needs and local identity. I have led major masterplans for key regeneration areas and new settlements in Nottingham City and North Yorkshire, prioritising partnership working to provide well-connected and integrated green spaces to create vibrant and inclusive communities.
My work includes developing masterplans and design frameworks to inform strategies and policies for future sustainable developments with a strong emphasis on protecting and enhancing natural and historic environments. I also lead on the detailed design and delivery of open spaces and environmental improvements preserving local identity and creating accessible places.
My experience in site specific design briefs and design codes has also been a key tool in raising design quality to develop innovative, context-sensitive solutions to create destinations that restore local identity, enhance green infrastructure and promote diverse communities for long term placemaking.
I firmly believe that well-designed places and spaces have the power to transform lives and communities and are catalyst for healthier lifestyles. I strive to create environments that inspire, connect, and enrich the human experience across generations.
As a Panel Member in Designg:Midlands I provide constructive and expert advice to influence good design at the pre-application stage of schemes in the Midlands as part of an interdisciplinary skills panel.
