Maria Newstrom

As Associate Director at FUSE Architects I am applying my experience in both planning and technical delivery in the residential, commercial, leisure and retail sectors across the UK and Europe to new and exciting projects.

Working on several large sites, both in town and city centre as well as in more suburban locations, I am currently delivering large residential and mixed-use planning applications and investigating site solutions for clients on large areas of under-utilised retail and commercial land.

As a Recognised Practitioner in Urban Design,  the integration of retail, leisure, workspace and residential elements of a development together with high quality public realm into the wider community has always been at the centre of my design ethos, creating fully diverse mixed-use developments and maximising the value of these assets for clients. This holistic approach to design leads to the type of quality placemaking needed to produce developments where people want to be, to live, work and spend time.

FUSE has a proven track record in designing and delivering high quality successful residential developments and unlocking land for clients. Increasingly, the land we are asked to explore includes some element of redundant retail space that is plaguing our high streets, shopping centres and edge of town retail parks. We see the changing nature of the retail market as a tremendous opportunity to reintroduce residential uses into more town centre and well-connected locations where these uses have previously been excluded.

I am our in-house conservation expert, with experience of delivering schemes in conservation areas and working with listed buildings across the UK. Additionally, as a BREEAM and LEED accredited professional and I apply these skills to my projects to maximise value for clients.
