Joshua Doyle
I am an urban designer with a background in architecture and a career that has spanned architectural practice, local government and the built environment technology sector. My work sits at the intersection of placemaking, digital innovation and strategic leadership — focused on translating complex policy, data and stakeholder needs into practical outcomes that shape better places.
My career began in architectural practice, where I worked across projects of all scales — from award-winning individual buildings through to large-scale mixed-use masterplans. This grounding in the craft of design, and in working across the full lifecycle of a project from concept through to construction, continues to inform the way I approach placemaking and urban design. It instilled in me a strong belief in the importance of quality and detail at every scale, and in the significance of the human experience of the built environment.
My career has since been defined by a curiosity about how systems, processes and tools can be improved to support higher quality design decisions. I have worked across local government and the private sector leading multidisciplinary teams, managing complex stakeholder relationships and delivering programmes that balance strategic ambition with practical delivery. A consistent thread throughout has been a commitment to building the internal capability and culture needed to sustain high quality outcomes — whether through restructuring governance, introducing new processes, or developing innovative digital tools that support more informed, evidence-based decision making.
I am particularly interested in the role that digital tools and data can play in making good placemaking more consistent, more measurable and more achievable. This interest has led to my work being recognised at a national level, with regular invitations to present at conferences, symposia and professional forums across the UK.
I am passionate about the role that well-designed places play in supporting health, wellbeing and community connection, and about ensuring that the processes and systems that shape our built environment are as thoughtful and inclusive as the outcomes we aspire to.
