Joe Stenson

Joe is a Chartered Architect and heads the Group Urban Design function at Barratt Developments providing advice and assistance across all divisions of the Barratt & David Wilson Homes’ housebuilding operation. 

Joe has over 20 years of experience working with the housebuilding industry, in Architectural practice, as a Regional Design Director in development consultancy and internally with major developers.

The Barratt Group Urban Design team ensure that placemaking and 'Great Places' design philosophies are primary considerations throughout the Barratt business' land acquisition and planning application processes. 

Formerly, at Pegasus, Joe was the Group’s Urban Design & Architecture Director in the North of England overseeing design teams in Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester & Liverpool.  

Joe is involved throughout the entire design lifecycle of Barratt's residential developments, focusing on large scale masterplanning of strategic sites, design coding and delivering and supervising reserved matters applications thereafter. 

In Architectural practice, Joe developed ranges of bespoke housetypes for SME and national housebuilders with a detailed understanding of evolving building regulations alongside the Nationally Described Space Standards. 

Joe has gained substantial experience in liaising with Goverment, Local Authorities and presenting proposals to a wide range of audiences, including landowner consortia, stakeholders and the public through community engagement.

Joe sits within a working group aiding Homes England & Design for Homes in re-configuring Building for Healthy Life in 2024.
