Hannah Smart

Hannah is an award-winning leader in Urban Design, championing high-quality placemaking through meaningful engagement, multidisciplinary collaboration and inclusive design. 

She is committed to thought leadership and continually seeks to strengthen how the profession engages with Urban Design, promoting confidence, rigour and best practice. 

Hannah is the 2026–27 Chair of the Urban Design Group and voted ‘Woman of Influence’ in 2024.

Trained in Architecture and Landscape Architecture, Hannah is an ideas-driven strategic thinker who brings creativity and clarity to complex projects. She works across disciplines and stakeholder groups to shape coherent visions, believing strongly in the power of narrative to translate ambition into deliverable, enduring places. Clients describe her as “the glue that holds the team together”.

At Farrells, Hannah was instrumental in the co-design of the Vision and Masterplan for NW Bicester EcoTown, working alongside Gary Young and Sir Terry Farrell. She co-founded edge with Sarah Murray in 2018 and has since led the masterplanning of multi-landowner communities of up to 10,000 homes including new settlements across the UK at Ashbrook Meadows, Harrington, Sibson Garden Village, Tidbury Green and North Barnes Farm in Sussex.
