Gemma Hizzett
Gemma has been working as an Urban Designer based in the Yorkshire and North West regions, through her specialist field, Gemma has been focusing on context, community and sense of place, whilst also taking into account sustainability and the wider environment.
Gemma is the lead Urban Designer for Wakefield Council, and her role is ensuring that any received applications create high-quality and successful and innovative outcomes, whilst focusing on designing and delivering healthy and liveable homes, attractive and welcoming places, including sustainable and resilient environments, that enrich the quality of life for now and the everyday, making Wakefield District a great place both to live and work.
Currently Gemma is working on a District wide Design Code, which will be authority wide, including a selection of set area types focusing on varying densities and a mixture of employment types, in an attempt to raise the quality of design, whilst enabling innovative approaches within the Wakefield District, and will be adopted as an SPD in mid 2026.
