Define were appointed as masterplanners for a 190 dwelling scheme within Tidbury Green, Solihull. Substantial hedgerows corridors that subdivided the site and wrapped its boundaries were integral to the design of the scheme; utilised within the layout to create distinctive tree lined streets that reflected the leafy character of the village. A central green corridor was proposed to promote social integration between existing and proposed communities, ensuring the extensive recreational facilities proposed were accessible to all. Established woodlands were opened up to the public extending beyond the more formal play areas and ‘kickabout’ zones into a naturalistic environment promoting creative play and an array of wildlife habitats. Due to the retention of the existing landscape structure, we were able to exploit existing drainage ditches to form an integral part of the sustainable drainage system for the site. Wetland ponds were situated within a wildlife park, maximising the area of the site located within Green Belt. Define engaged with the local community and Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to create a scheme that maximised the positive landscape and built form characteristics of the site and the village, producing a Design and Access Statement and series of application drawings that clearly demonstrated the site and contextual analysis and design evolution process, forming a part of the outline planning application.
