Barrow Marina Village, Barrow in Furness

Following liaison with Barrow Borough Council, Places Matter! and others, initial thoughts, concepts and ideas were presented via plan, sketch work and 3D modelling enabling Story Homes to achieve 'preferred developer status' on this key 650 unit residential led masterplan. This also incorporated an 80 bed hotel, 340 berth marina and hub / chandlers building, various new parks adopting different themes, and areas of high quality public realm together with several retail and restaurant units.

A key element of our involvement related to the initial study of site constraints and opportunities, the town's strong orthogonal structure, heritage and personality, the relevance of James Ramsden's masterplan and the need for the site to reconnect Barrow to its waterfront and industrial dockyard areas.

All elements of the Masterplan were fully tested in order to compile a detailed economic appraisal / viability for submission to HM Treasury in an effort to assure gap funding for this key project. A detailed layout confirming all housetypes was produced in addition to plans and elevations for all non- residential elements and 4no 20 unit landmark apartment buildings on the marina waterfront. With partner drainage, geotechnical, highways, landscape and ecology consultants, detailed designs for key junctions and public realm areas were developed with 15 streetscenes and cross sections, produced alongside re-elevation and characterisation work.
