Urban Designer & Conservation Team Leader - Cherwell District Council

37 hours per week, 1 year fixed term contract (subject to review)

Cherwell is an attractive area in north Oxfordshire with three urban areas. It is rapidly growing due to planned development and high levels of investment. Our market towns are expanding, and further growth is expected. The Council is a signatory to the Oxfordshire Housing and Growth Deal and benefits from joint management with Oxfordshire County Council.

An Urban Designer and Conservation Team Leader is required to lead the provision of urban design advice, the preparation of development briefs and to help achieve Healthy Place Shaping. They will supervise an experienced Conservation Team and ensure that both design and conservation advice is provided. There may be opportunities to assist with the Council’s own development projects.

Cherwell is ambitious and innovative. It includes both the unique Graven Hill self-build site and the eco-development as part of the Bicester Garden Town. Healthy Place Shaping and responding to climate change are changing how we deliver.  We have development briefs and new policy to prepare.  We have a rich historic environment and a busy Conservation Area review programme.

The Person:

A talented and experienced urban designer is sought with wide expertise of the built and historic environment and the ability to lead/supervise teams and deliver projects.
