JOB DESCRIPTION: SENIOR URBAN DESIGNER (STRATEGIC PLANNING)

Based in our London office, we are seeking a talented Senior Urban Designer to join our team, where you will play an instrumental role in the preparation and design of a number of exciting masterplanning projects, including urban extensions, new neighbourhoods and garden communities across the UK. With a passion for team collaboration and to be involved in the creation of sustainable, high-quality places, you will have experience of working on similar projects supported by a portfolio of work, demonstrating the various stages of design, including vision-led site promotion and concept masterplanning through to the preparation of Design and Access Statements, Design Codes and Illustrative Masterplans to support outline planning applications.
The successful candidate will be a creative and confident team player who can take a proactive approach to project work with a proven record of delivering projects on time and in budget, who can manage their workload as well as providing support to junior members of the team.
The successful candidate will have excellent written, verbal and graphic communication skills and be proficient in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop), SketchUp Pro and AutoCAD. Experience of using MicroStation and/or VectorWorks as well as hand-drawing skills will be advantageous.
The successful candidate will be post-graduate qualified in urban design with an undergraduate qualification in planning, architecture or landscape architecture advantageous.

Job purpose: To contribute to design project work by producing documents and drawings of a range of projects and assist senior staff within the team in undertaking a varied and challenging workload.
Contract duration: Permanent
Grade: Senior Consultant Level
Reports to: Director
Current Base (location): London office (Farringdon). Flexible working arrangements available subject to team and collaboration requirements.
SECTION 2: ACCOUNTABILITIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Willing to take the lead / be proactive on assigned projects including preparing masterplans(Illustrative, Framework and Concept) and supporting documents (Site Appraisals, VisionDocuments, Design Guidance i.e. SPDs, Development Frameworks, Design and AccessStatements, Design Codes).
- Accountable for the successful delivery of tasks on project work.
- Manage small projects so that a knowledge base can grow to larger projects.
- Support Director and Associate Directors on project work.
- Provide support and advice to junior members of staff on design projects.
- Support the production of high quality bids and successful tender presentations.
- Organise own time and time planning of deliverables with general guidance from seniorcolleagues.
- Input into project management and resourcing trackers and ensure consistency with liveprojects and agreed timelines.
- Oversee the development and execution of design ideas.
- Involvement and engagement with the Design teams internal ‘Check & Challenge’ designreview process with colleagues across the division.
- Take responsibility for quality of own work and share ways of improving work processeswith senior staff.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues across the company.
- Promote the company and look for cross-selling opportunities.
- Proactively manage the flow of information, correspondence, problems and queries andensure this is shared with senior staff.
- Proactively interpret and take effective actions and decisions based on the context of theproject.
- Initiate ideas for marketing activities.
- Be involved in the development of client relationships and the promotion of work.
- Be involved in the development of new business leads and the initiation of networkingopportunities to help grow the business and the Design teams reputation.
- Keep knowledge and skills up to date based on best practice.
- Attend networking events on behalf of Iceni Projects.
