Stride Treglown is a AJ100 and B Corp multi-disciplinary architectural practice with Masterplanning and Urban Design, Landscape Architect, and Town Planning teams covering the UK. We are engaged in all stages of design, contributing to early feasibility studies through to technical detailing and monitoring construction on site. We’re looking for someone with a passion for design, curiosity, personal drive, and technical knowhow. The role will be hands on, requiring initiative and good design, communication and leadership skills. This opportunity is for those who can clearly demonstrate a capability and desire to lead and manage urban design and masterplanning projects of different scales. The candidate will have a keen interest in high quality placemaking for all types of environments, as evidenced in their portfolio, and will be keen to support and promote broader placemaking initiatives across the practice working closely with Planning, Landscape and architectural colleagues. This role will be based within the Masterplanning and Urban Design studio but will involve supporting different sectors across the practice, including, though not limited to, our Higher Education, Residential, Healthcare, Employment, and Technology & Innovation studios. We are, therefore, seeking a Senior Urban Designer with proven experience in project running who can lead on masterplanning projects across multiple sectors.

The candidate will have: 

  • A design background in mixed-use masterplanning projects, ideally with some architectural training
  • Experience in running and managing projects
  • Ideally 3-4 years minimum professional experience working in a high-quality, design focused practice
  • An awareness and an understanding of current UK planning policy framework and the RIBA Work Stages
  • A keen interest in, and experience of, mixed scale masterplanning projects, preferably across a range of sectors, and be able to present their work in this context
  • An ability to work collaboratively in large multi-disciplinary teams on complex environments
  • An ability to understand, communicate and present contextual issues from surrounding large areas
  • An ability to develop and deliver engagement strategies as part of the project
  • Excellent drawing and presentation skills and the ability to explain a design idea and evolution of a concept
  • Excellent report writing skills with an ability to convey complex strategies using clear and concise language
  • An ability to build rapport, create relationships and work effectively and positively with others, including with clients
  • A desire to keep up to date with developments in the field and to help expand the broader knowledge and expertise of the team

Technical Skills:

  • Good CAD skills, including in 3D modelling and ideally in Revit but AutoCAD/SketchUp would also be useful
  • Strong graphic skills in terms of drawings, diagrams, plans and images using in the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign)
  • Good familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
