Urban Design Planner

Swindon Borough Council
Swindon
£27,966

This is an exciting opportunity to join our vibrant PLACEmaking Team working to help shape Swindon and secure high quality development across strategic allocations and through key Council projects.

If you are a team player looking for a fulfilling career within a small group of Urban Designers as part of a wider supportive and friendly Placemaking team of specialists including Planners, Conservation and Arboricultural Officers, Landscape Architects, and Ecologist, then this could be the role for you.   We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Urban Designer to help our team of professionals bring forward sustainable development, urban regeneration and influence projects across the Borough.

Swindon is a vibrant and dynamic town with big plans for growth.  We are ranked in the top 10 most highly innovative areas in the UK and are investing in our staff to ensure we can continue to plan positively to deliver our targets and secure enhancements in our environment.

We are looking to appoint an Urban Design graduate (RICS, RTPI, RIBA recognised or similar), with a good understanding of the Planning System and the skills and motivation to help us deliver our ambitious goals. This role provides a great opportunity for an individual starting their career.  If you bring a ‘can do’ attitude and skills including hand drawing, architectural awareness, IT capability (AutoCad, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp and Mapping) and a flare for good design, then we will support you to be part of a strong, dynamic team, working collaboratively on exciting projects and developments with colleagues across the Council, partner organisations and developers.  The work will be varied, fulfilling and rewarding and the successful candidate will gain valuable and wide-ranging experience.

An ability to travel throughout the Borough and sometimes beyond to undertake site visits and attend meetings is also essential and candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

We feel a work life balance is important for our team members. As such Swindon operates flexible working and you will have the opportunity to work from home.  The working hours and pattern for this role may be negotiable for the right candidate.

If you are experiencing technical issues submitting your application please email resourcing@swindon.gov.uk
