Do you have what it takes to drive forward an exciting programme of regeneration of one of Britain’s finest post-war City Centres?

Working with the amazing legacy of Sir Patrick Abercrombie’s A Plan for Plymouth, we have a strategy in place to re-purpose and re-populate Plymouth City Centre as a top-tier centre in the South West. Having secured major awards from TCF, High Street Heritage Action Zone and Future High Street Fund we now have the funding too. We need your skills, motivation and passion to help make it happen.

Plymouth City Council has prioritised City Centre Renaissance as one of the key pillars of its COVID-19 economic recovery plan. The Council supports a collaborative approach to its delivery with teams from across the services coming together to work closely with partners and the BIDs. The Strategic Growth Team is a multi-discipline team of Urban Designers, Architects, Landscape Architects, Planners, Historic Environment and Project Delivery Officers. The team takes a lead role in the coordination and governance of City Centre regeneration activities, provides design, heritage and planning expertise to major projects, and leads the delivery of a programme of public realm and place-making projects currently in excess of £30m.

We are seeking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated professional to support the Strategic Growth Manager in the leadership of the team, helping to manage a dedicated team of design and delivery specialists. With a particular emphasis on the team’s City Centre Regeneration function you will: help manage governance arrangements, strategic partnerships and KPI’s; deliver a programme of heritage, place-making and public realm capital projects; and provide urban design and regeneration expertise to strategic development projects including preparation of high quality area visions, masterplans and feasibility studies on a chargeable basis.

For this role you will need to have a planning, design or regeneration related qualification and be a member of a relevant professional institute. You will have a clear and up-to-date understanding of the issues and opportunities affecting high streets/ city centres and be able to draw upon relevant best practice. You will have demonstrable experience of programme governance and working with elected Members at a senior level, leading multi-discipline teams on complex regeneration projects, successful tendering and work-wining and be able to draw upon a portfolio of high quality frameworks, masterplans and other such completed work.

We are interested in hearing from candidates with a range of relevant skills and experience, gained in the public or private sector, and from a range of professional backgrounds.

All candidates should be motivated to work within a multi-discipline environment and have experience of delivering design and regeneration commissions and construction projects.
