Super-computer model created to model solar radiaion energy balance in cities

Researchers at the Technical University of Madrid (UPM, Spain) have created "shadow models" and a type of software that calculates the amount of solar radiation that reaches streets and buildings in high resolution.

The software can be used to aid the optimising of architectural and urban design in making best use of sunlight and avoiding heat gain and needless energy consumption.
