Software developed for testing parking policy, provision and
The software enables the simulation of different parking arrangements and pricing structures and the impact on traffic flows.
The authors also suggest that many major cities make two main mistakes with their parking policies,
1. Making on-street parking cheaper than off-street. Drivers then aim to find cheap parking in the city, and drive around more than necessary just to "check," . City traffic would move more efficiently if drivers had incentive to park in lots straightaway.
2. not enforcing a strict time limit for high-demand parking areas. Increased turnover, caused by time restrictions, will benefit both businesses and drivers, making the quest for a parking spot much easier.
