Green light for light rail

This overview report signals a change in Government policy which for a number of years has viewed light rail with a certain scepticism owing to cost.

It heralds a "UKTram" report which will cover issues such as harmonisation and standardisation, which may reduce the cost of future schemes.

It also states that the Government will be commencing a consultation exercise on the cost of utility diversions.  This is one of the main factors that has caused the cost of the Edinburgh tram to escalate.
