Anti-depressant use linked to living alone

People living on their own use nearly double the amount of antidepressants compared with people living with others.

For women living alone in poor quality accommodation is the main risk factor; for men, it is lack of social support.

Roughly on third of the population in the UK and the USA live on their own, the numbers having doubled over the past thirty years.
