Editor John Billingham has brought together a stimulating range of articles on Housing Market Renewal Area pathfinders in North Staffordshire, the West Midlands, Sheffield, Newcastle and Hull alongside examples of urban designers’ work.Billingham emphasises the crucial role of urban design in taking proposals forward.As he notes: ‘the pathfinder programme is a massive undertaking’.Urban Design (Autumn 2004: 92) provides a vital snapshot of current and proposed work in this enormously challenging programme.
