We are looking for an experienced, creative and talented Urban Designer who can deliver high-quality work and outcomes to represent Coventry City Council in public. You will be required to provide design advice in promoting, implementing and supporting the Council’s Development, Urban Design, Heritage and Planning functions.

Coventry is the UK City of Culture in 2021 and the transformation of our city is already gathering pace in preparation. As an Urban Design & Heritage Manager you will help shape this exciting time for Coventry and will join our top performing and forward-thinking planning department! As manager of a newly structured team you will be able to shape your new team so that it is best placed to respond effectively to the growth and regeneration that is already taking shape.

You will need to have excellent urban design skills and the ability to produce electronic drawings and visual representations in order to communicate projects. The ideal candidate will have the following experience:

  • working in a professional urban design role with an Urban Design qualification
  • have experience of managing a small team with a track record of positively contributing to development / regeneration schemes
  • working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and working independently on own initiative
  • excellent communication, negotiating and presentations skills sufficient to represent the City Council in public
  • have experience of working alongside a team of professional planning and environmental officers

Key to all projects we work on is ensuring the new blends with the old, managing a team comprising design, conservation and archaeology you will have the tools to help shape the environment. These projects include the regeneration of the City Centre to meet the current and future needs of residents, businesses and visitors, to the growth of the universities in our city.
