EDP is a successful multidisciplinary consultancy operating throughout England and Wales. Working with a wide range of clients, our masterplanning and urban design teams create and deliver fantastic spaces and places.

Following recent project successes, our Cardiff studio (which is based between the city and the Bay) is currently recruiting for a Residential Layout Designer/Urban Designer.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Associate Director assisting on a range of innovative masterplanning projects, primarily within the residential sector and ranging from from strategic feasibility studies through to detailed planning applications.

At EDP we specialise in ‘environmentally led’ masterplanning, drawing on the expertise of our in-house technical teams to provide environmentally driven responses to our client’s sites – as such you will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of the environment learning directly from the other core disciplines within the company. Key Responsibilities;

·         Undertake urban design site and context appraisals

·         Prepare and manage holistic constraints and opportunities evaluations

·         Prepare simple feasibility studies and concept plans

·         Assist in preparing full CAD residential layouts

·         Prepare plans, sections and elevations and other supporting graphics, overseen by the Associate Director.

·         Prepare Design and Access Statements

·         Assist during the determination period with Local Planning Authorities to ensure, where possible, an approval is obtained, and assist with subsequent discharge of planning conditions.

·         Interact with the client team and external consultants.


Key Skills;

·         A passion for residential masterplanning, and understanding of good practice urban design principles

·         Experience of the Housebuilding Sector (Private and Public) in relation to residential masterplanning layouts and planning process

·         Excellent CAD knowledge and ability to transfer sketch layouts to full CAD planning site layout plans with an awareness of the associate technical requirements. (Ideally using Vectorworks but not essential).

·         Experience in using Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp to produce presentation material.

·         Effective communicator

·         Ability to work to deadlines
