Urban Designers / Masterplanners - Technical Director or Principal grade - SLR

London, Manchester Midlands (other offices considered in the North West or South East)

Due to continued success, SLR is looking to expand its Urban Design and Masterplanning team with a senior hire to further develop the business with the wider team. The role requires an experienced, talented designer to help to develop this service offering based on the broad range of schemes and projects undertaken.

Currently centred around its Bristol office, SLR’s Urban Design team sits alongside a complementary and comprehensive team of Built Environment professionals, and provides a range of services from initial concept design and client advice to promotion of sites through the planning process.  

Recent high-profile successes include gaining outline consent for the exemplar Hampden Fields masterplan and landscape design concepts - a garden village scheme of up to 3,000 dwellings and a wide range of other uses. We’re also promoting exciting brownfield and other greenfield sites, and working for a wide range of clients across the Built Environment sector, as well as with the other key sectors serviced by SLR.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate would have experience of developing concept plans and design strategies, through to the preparation of Masterplans, Design and Access Statements and Design Codes. The role requires creativity and interaction with the wider team and other disciplines forming part of the design process, whilst ensuring practicality and wider issues are taken into account. Developing new business is an essential part of the role with the support of the wider team, with a desire to grow the team.

PERSON SPEC – SUMMARY 

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:
• Work-winning ability and able to present to, and meet with, clients.
• Proven masterplanning and urban design ability and experience.
• Good written and presentation ability.
• Experience of engaging with clients and managing inputs into the design process as a team player, with enthusiasm and willingness to learn and contribute towards the success of the business.
• Relevant built environment qualification. 
• Valid UK Driving Licence.
