Urban/Landscape Design Specialist

Full-time, 37 hours per week (8:30am to 5pm)

We are looking for a Landscape/Urban Designer to work in the Service Delivery Directorate who has experience in providing an urban and rural design service to ensure high quality design in all new developments through negotiation with all stakeholders.

You will be accountable for a range of interesting and challenging work, liaising with external agencies and partners and working as a representative of the Council on development projects, reviewing policies and procedures within the specialist area. You will be required to advise and inform on landscape and design, new developments and project development as well as acting as expert witness where necessary. You must possess good knowledge of legislation and statutory responsibilities and experience of translating this to practice.

You will need to be able to guide and advise the case management team, customer services and mobile locality teams in their delivery of less complex cases. In addition, you will also be required to prepare and present reports to Cabinet, Council committees and other internal/external meetings.

The successful candidate must have an Honours or Postgraduate degree in Landscape or urban design and be working towards becoming a member of the Landscape Institute or have equivalent demonstrable experience. You must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, and have experience of dealing with developers, other professionals, Councillors and members of the public in person and on the telephone. You will also be required to demonstrate an ability to manage competing priorities and remain calm, even when the pressure of workload is high.
