Townscape Consultant/ Landscape Architect with up to 7 years’ experience to join our urban design and major projects workgroup in our London office. The team supports both development projects and land promotion for both external clients and in-house planning teams covering a wide range of sectors (including housing, education, retail, leisure, sport and infrastructure).

Responsibilities:

Residential development is the focus of our urban design work but we also produce layouts for commercial and mixed use developments. We have a range of design projects across the country and this Urban Designer role will involve working with our regional offices to assist them with various development schemes as well as playing a major role continuing to build our track record, from our base in London. You will need to have excellent urban design skills and the ability to produce high quality drawings by hand and electronically, and visual representations in order to communicate projects.

The focus of the Townscape Consultant/Landscape Architect role is supporting the preparation of townscape/landscape character assessments, urban design and context appraisals, analysing the visual effects of development and providing townscape and urban design advice on emerging schemes.Depending on candidates interest and aptitude there may be the opportunity to get involved in masterplanning and urban design projects. The role involves the preparation of desk top published and word based reports (including Environmental Statement Chapters) together with associated 2 and 3D graphics. You can expect to undertake fieldwork and research, provide analysis and advice on Townscape/Landscape/ Visual effects of development proposals, liaise with internal and external clients, co-ordinate inputs from sub-consultants, GIS and visualisation specialists, contribute to internal project management and winning work.

Both roles will require working on a number of projects, so a proven ability to manage your own time and workload within tight timescales, and ability to problem solve is critical. You will also have market credibility with a proven ability to win new work and clients, and nurture existing client relationships to win repeat business.

Qualifications:

Candidates are most likely to have a background in planning, urban design, architecture, or landscape architecture/design, however candidates with different degrees but relevant experience may be considered.  We expect all candidates to have obtained at least a 2:1 or equivalent at first degree, and full information on A level, GCSE and other qualifications should be provided.

Candidates must demonstrate experience and an understanding of the UK planning system, and the ability to produce high quality work (both drawn and written) together with strong analytical and report writing skills.  You must also demonstrate understanding of the technical aspects of townscape and/or landscape and visual impact assessment (T/LVIA).

Familiarity in using a range of software packages such as Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Pro, Microsoft PowerPoint and Word is required as well as being a competent photographer. An understanding of 3D graphics or GIS programmes and interest in innovative techniques would be an advantage. 

Chartered Membership of the Landscape Institute or Recognised Urban Design Practitioner status will be an advantage.
