Townscape and Heritage Consultant - Planning and Development - Montagu Evans

Montagu Evans has been providing expert advice in the property sector for nearly 100 years.

We are proud of that heritage - just as we are proud of our reputation as a highly professional firm of chartered surveyors and property consultants. We do not stand still and are forever adapting, constantly looking at innovative ways to service our clients and deliver creative solutions.

Through our office network we are involved in some of the largest commercial, residential and mixed-use property projects in the UK today. We remain a partnership, providing a hands on style of working to ensure the best possible outcome for our clients each and every time

About the role

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious professional to join our busy Planning and Development Department in London. This opportunity is within our sector-leading Heritage and Townscape team, providing advice on strategic planning and design matters in relation to development in the historic environment or with sensitive townscape or visual receptors.

The successful candidate will be working on a wide range of high-profile projects where contextual analysis, design and visual impact are critical to the planning process. This includes many tall building proposals where our advice helps to shape the design of the proposals. Current projects include:

  • The ‘Illuminated River’ long term art commission to light central London’s bridges along the River Thames
  • High Road West, Tottenham, a significant regeneration project to create 2,500 homes, more than 18,580sqm of commercial, retail and leisure space, as well as a new public square and park.
  • The transformation of the 32-acre Winstanley and York Road estates located adjacent to Clapham Junction Station. The project aims to provide more than 2,200 homes, built around a redesigned park.

The role will involve conducting research; assessing the character, function and appearance of townscape; and, producing townscape, heritage and visual impact assessments of new developments. The appointed candidate would work closely with other professionals in the department and have the opportunity to expand their own skill set across planning, heritage and urban design disciplines.

This person would have exposure to a wide range of clients, from charities (government bodies, the NHS, universities) to leading blue chip developers and investors in all sectors. The work is largely in London and southern England but our expertise takes us around the country to work on complex projects, drawing on our wide experience.

The right candidate will have the opportunity to progress up through our successful partnership and s/he will have exposure to a varied range of work. We offer a competitive remuneration package, experience in a position offering early responsibility with a strong client focus, and excellent career prospects which are limited only by your ambition.
