Salary:
Up to £36,700 pa (depending on experience).

Ref: 1G044P

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work in Broxbourne, an attractive borough located next to the M25, between the attractions of central London and the green fields and woodlands of southern Hertfordshire.

Broxbourne has ambitious proposals for development including four strategic sites: Brookfield Riverside and Garden Village; Rosedale Park; Park Plaza, a major new business park by the M25; and Cheshunt Lakeside, a mixed-use urban village adjacent to a proposed Crossrail 2 station. The Borough Council is looking for an experienced professional to help deliver this development whilst improving the environment of the borough.

The Borough of Broxbourne is undergoing a period of significant change, with some exciting new developments, and this role offers the successful candidate an opportunity to make their mark as an Urban Designer. The Senior Urban Designer will have the lead role in providing design input to the plan-making and development management functions of the service. The work includes an interesting variety of regeneration plans and projects, as well as large and small greenfield developments, with a remit to improve sustainability. The design environment includes town centres, public realm, landscape, conservation, housing projects, and environmental enhancements, at all stages from initial project conception through to delivery.  The role also includes assisting case officers and working on a range of policy documents and guidance.

Applicants should be qualified in Urban Design, or have a planning or related degree with significant urban design experience. Strong visualisation and mapping skills are a prerequisite, including drawing skills and familiarity with computer design packages. Experience of masterplanning and delivery of development projects would be a considerable advantage, although less experienced candidates who can demonstrate their creativity and suitability for the post will be considered. Applicants should be excellent communicators both in person and in writing, as the post will involve contact with the general public and elected members as well as a wide range of stakeholders. For an informal discussion about the role, please contact Martin Paine on 01992 785563.

The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in fluent English is essential in this post.  We are committed to safer recruitment, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

The benefits package includes generous leave entitlement, a full training and development programme, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and free membership to the Council’s local leisure centres, which includes free access to gyms, swimming pools, fitness classes, racket sport sessions, a health suite and a range of generous discounts across other leisure and culture services.
