Lead Urban Designer (12 months maternity cover) - DAR

Negotiable THE REQUIRMENT
A leading international, multidisciplinary consultant with offices in London and throughout the Gulf States, Middle East and Africa, is seeking to recruit a highly experienced and talented Urban Designer to work in its London Design office. Though the post is based in London, there are likely to be opportunities for frequent and potentially extended travel outside the UK. The candidate will be able to lead large master planning and urban design projects and manage the time and resources of internal and external teams effectively, to be aware of deadlines and to work well under pressure.
THE ROLE
- Leading and assisting on master planning and urban design projects;
- Coordinating and managing the technical inputs of other consultants within the Dar Group and external consultants;
- Writing reports and creating presentations, drawings and other deliverables and ensuring that they are submitted on time and to the highest quality achievable;
- Writing and preparing proposals for new projects, evaluating scopes of work and structuring proposals;
- Interacting with clients through meetings and presentations;
- Supervising, managing and mentoring of junior staff including urban planners, urban designers and interns;
- Candidates will be expected to travel overseas at short notice for short and long-term assignments of up to 3 months.
Key functional relationships:
Internal: IWork closely with Team Members within the Planning, Urban Design and landscape department.
External: Work collaboratively with key members of other departments and Area Offices, when appropriate, to address client requirements.
EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor degree in Urban Design or Architecture and preferably a postgraduate degree/diploma in Urban Design from a well-known university.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- At least 10 years’ relevant work experience in a multi-disciplinary design environment and of managing large and complex urban planning and master planning projects;
- Excellent planning and presentation skills, initiative, motivation and be a team player;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- An excellent knowledge of current urban design and master planning best practice and sustainable development;
- Thorough knowledge of the design and planning process and the role of all disciplines within the project team;
- Experience working in the Middle East would be an advantage.
CORE COMPETENCIES
- Candidates must be fluent in written and spoken English and have good report writing abilities. Knowledge of a second language is an added bonus;
- Good sketching ability;
- Attention to detail;
- Demonstrate a positive attitude at all times whilst understanding the impact of decisions on all aspects of the project;
- Must have initiative, motivation and be a team player.
RENUMERATION
- Basic monthly salary negotiable in accordance with relevant experience;
- Pension scheme minimum 10% Company’s contribution;
- Salary uplift while working overseas;
- Per diem payments while working overseas;
- Medical insurance;
- Travel insurance.
