Urban Design Officer - NNJDPU

East Northamptonshire
£26,317 per annum (with the potential to earn up to £31,371)

Full-time: 37 hours per week

North Northamptonshire lies just 50 minutes from St Pancras and is part of the Cambridge-Milton Keynes-Oxford Arc. It is one of the fastest growing areas in the country and offers outstanding career opportunities for built-environment professionals.

The Joint Planning and Delivery Unit (JPDU) supports four local planning authorities and the county council in planning and delivering an ambitious growth agenda. The partners are working towards becoming a unitary authority in 2021.

We are looking for an Urban Design Officer to strengthen our professional team here at the NNJPDU, to deal with a growing and varied workload. Our work programme includes updating the strategic plan for North Northamptonshire and supporting the delivery of Garden Communities containing over 25,000 new homes. Our emphasis on place-making has been recognised by North Northamptonshire being selected for the national “Future Place” initiative led by the RIBA.

You will be a skilled urban or landscape designer who is able to champion the delivery of local design policies. This will involve providing advice to the planning authorities and developers, contributing to the development of design codes and policies, and running inter-disciplinary design surgeries. You could be either an established professional or early in your career and looking for a role that will provide wide- ranging experience in a small, friendly team.

This is a permanent post employed by Wellingborough Council on behalf of the JPDU. It may be available on a part-time or job-share basis for the right candidate.

In return we offer a range of work life balance benefits (including flexible working arrangements), pension scheme, professional development opportunities, and free car parking.
