National Conference on Urban Design 2012
THE VALUE OF URBAN DESIGN
What is the financial, economic, social and environmental value of good urban design?
18 – 20 October 2012 – Saïd Business School plus other venues around Oxford
The Urban Design Group’s 30th annual conference organised in partnership with Oxford Brookes University and with the generous support of Savills LLP Ltd, David Lock Associates and Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners.
Key topics to be covered during this three day event include:
- The economic case for the value of urban design
- Urban design benefits to placemaking
- Enhancing communities through urban design
- Open source planning and the role of urban design
- Promoting the relevance of urban design to clients – developers, house builders and local authorities
- New approaches to urban design teaching and learning
- UK and international case studies and comparisons
- Focus on Oxford – regeneration and renewal in a sensitive, historic setting.
At a time when developer and house-builder profit margins are under pressure and local authority budgets are being squeezed, it is more important than ever to understand the benefits that good urban design brings; benefits such as greater financial value, lower long term costs, better public health and wellbeing and inward investment.
This year, the National Conference on Urban Design brings together the most accurate, up-to-date and thorough knowledge on the value of urban design currently available.
Leading experts will present on the value of urban design to developers, local authorities, communities and new residential schemes. The latest research on urban design and value will be featured in a series of Knowledge Exchanges, representing the best of over 40 abstracts received, ranging from aesthetics through to cycling, suburbs to innovative analysis tools.
The conference will also include the Urban Design Group’s annual dinner and special celebrations to mark the 40th anniversary of the Joint Centre for Urban Design (JCUD) at Oxford Brookes University.
Booking is now open with rates starting at £139.00 for UDG Members.
Don’t miss this landmark event in the urban design calendar.
