Urban Design & Public Health
The Urban Design Group and Planning Aid for London would like to invite you to this event on public health.
Soaring rates of obesity, depression and vitamin D deficiency are all evidence of a public health crisis...but can good urban design and planning help? This event will look the interplay between urban design, planning and the public health agenda. Research is showing that well designed places can have a major impact on improving the health and general wellbeing of individuals and communities.
The event will start with a PechaKucha (Japanese for "chatter"), a series of 2 minute rapid-fire slide presentations by members of the Architecture for Health group.
Martin Willey from the NHS London Healthy Urban Development Unit will then discuss measures to improve collaboration between the planning and health sectors in London; Janice Morphet from UCL will present her work on health and spatial planning and Gordon Glenday, Head of Planning Policy and Regeneration at the LB Waltham Forest, will then present that borough’s approach to tackling the number of hot food takeaways.
Drinks will be provided at a low price.
PAL volunteers can attend for the the UDG member rate of £3.
We look forward to seeing you there!
