JOIN THE JANE’S WALK FESTIVAL 1st-3rd May

Friday 1 May 2015 - 13:45 to Sunday 3 May 2015 - 13:45

On Friday May 1st to Sunday May 3rd 2015, thousands of people around the world will come together to walk and talk about what makes a good city for the Janes Walk festival. The festival is a global movement of free, locally led walking tours inspired by iconic writer and urban activist Jane Jacobs. Despite being the capital and the biggest city in the UK, London has not been well represented by Janes Walk in the past. Lets change that this year. Organizers are looking for citizen tour guides to explore the city on foot. The festival is open to individuals of all ages, abilities and income levels. People can sign up to create a walk of their own, lead a walk with others or participate in one. The walks create the time and space for people to learn about their cities, connect with their neighbors and share ideas. Walks can also provide participants with the opportunity to tackle community challenges and solve problems.

Last years walks spanned a huge range of themes from wetlands to walking school buses. The ideas that flow out of Janes Walk are practical, optimistic and help build resilient communities, said Denise Pinto, Global Director of Janes Walk.

Some of the walk themes that have taken place over the years include: being a newcomer to a community, food access and security, public art, public spaces, accessibility, health and wellbeing, sports, safety, gender issues, politics, revitalization and much more. In 2014, there were more than 800 walks in more than 100 cities around the world. For 2015, interested citizen tour guides can list their walks at http://janeswalk.org/united-kingdom/london/

No registration is required to attend walks.

Every perspective is important to building vibrant and healthy cities. If you have a fun, informative, unusual way of looking at your neighborhood, then Janes Walk wants you to host a walking conversation through your community! Organizing a walk is easy. It involves planning a route, thinking through the stories, places, people and ideas you want to hear and talk about, and then registering it online at http://janeswalk.org/united-kingdom/london/
