Richard Shaw

Richard studied Town Planning at  the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and followed this with an MSc in Transportation Planning and Policy.  After working in transport planning, Richard moved in to urban design with an MA in Urban Design at the University of Nottingham. 

After working in both the public and private sectors, Richard has worked as an urban designer for 10 years and now works at South Derbyshire District Council, dealing with a range of projects. This includes commenting on planning applications largely comprising of major residential schemes, project managing public realm improvement schemes, writing design policy and design guidance documents, writing and working on successful funding bids, such as the Heritage Lottery Fund and training staff and Councillors in urban design. 

Richard is a Recognised Practitioner in Urban Design.
